I’m a 28-year-old female originally from South Africa. I am a dedicated educator with almost 1 year of teaching experience in China. I’m focused on providing an innovative, fun, and inspiring classroom. I have a track record of encouraging students to master English while also nurturing their love of the language. I’m committed to finding new methods to get better results and improve the performance of my students. My teaching philosophy is centered around starting at the level of the students and walking with them their journey of discovering the world at large through their lens. I believe a learning environment should be safe enough to allow learners to learn, unlearn & relearn.

Professional Experience #

  • Teaching young children and teenagers ranging rom aged 3 – 14 years old.
  • Class sizes ranging from 10 – 16 students.
  • Completed courses such as TEFL gaining a well-rounded set of teaching skills. Expanding
    from grammar to classroom management. Further developed through in person training
    and experience.
  • Communication skills: Liaising with co teachers and other members of staff regarding
    students’ progression, future lessons, and discussing where further help is needed.
  • Problem solving skills: being able to answer difficult questions. For example, answering
    parent’s questions during parent teacher meetings.
  • Classroom management skills: to help keep students focused, attentive, and productive
    in class. Praising and encouraging student’s efforts in class. Setting up a routine with the
    students, including rules for the class. Ensuring the safety of students, also being able to
    address problems when they arise.
  • Lesson planning and preparation before each lesson. Creating lessons plans to
    accommodate each class.
  • Time management skills: Monitoring daily attendance, keeping up to date with
    paperwork, feedback, and other administrative duties.
  • Carrying out progress checks. For example, carrying out tests and marking homework
    to highlight any issues students are facing.
  • Participated in parent facing events such as parent teacher meetings and open lessons
    where the parents would observe my class for 40 minutes to show students ability and
    progression.
  • Attending extra trainings and meetings.
